I haven’t watched a whole lot of LSU ball like you fellas. Did a little reading and tape review of Emery though and I was thinking he might be a good candidate for the Saints in the 3rd or 4th that could satisfy our need for quality power at G if he would move inside.

Could be a good option to swing out to tackle if needed as well since that’s where he played.

What I like:
- size 6’5” 315 and knows how to use it. Long 34” arms
- good power
- little slower on the edge which makes him fine for G

There’s not a lot of power or talent at guard this year outside the 1st or early second round. He’s one of the few guards or tackles with good tape and long arms available.

So how would y’all feel about spending a 3rd or 4th on him? Do you think he’ll last that long?

I like it.

When I am chasing the dragon every evening after work, aka doing mock drafts, if I don’t get a OG in rounds 1 or 2, I usually takes Jones with one of my 3rd rounders. I usually draft some combo of WR, NT, EDGE, LB with the first two rounds and would feel good about that happening in the real world too.

If you look at this draft, it appears that OT is super deep and Guard is not. But when you look deeper, you realize there are quite a few OT's in this draft who many are claiming should be moved inside to G.

Theres only 5 guards in this draft that I like. Maybe a 6th. I haven't made up my mind of Fairchild yet.

But Emery is one of a few OT's that I like that could be moved to G. Also Jonah Savaiinaea, Hollin Pierce and Anthony Belton

I'd be happy to take him in the 3rd or 4th. I'm not sure he can move to Guard, but we do need depth at Tackle and I'm not convinced Penning is the long term answer at RT. You can cross-train Jones at Guard and Tackle and maybe he develops to the point that he beats out Penning. It would be nice to not have to give Penning a big contract in the next year if we can find an upgrade.

Jonah Savaiinaea is my PFN mock draft go to if the top three OG are gone. You usually have to take him c.40 though and the guards get really thin / picked clean after pick 60.

I think I've reached peak mock draft (R1-4) result now with this. I'm usually an 'Edge/CB in round 1' drafter, but Seattle really, really wanted to move up for an OT and the chips fell just right for an offense-heavy draft.

Yeah, give me Belton please.

The guy looks like he'll be a monster. A Guard will be a lawnmower on inside runs and if OT then a lawnmower on outside runs lol. I'm curious how he'll handle really fast EDGE's in pass protection.

His heaviest hands in the draft are legit. That guy hits dudes and sometimes they just fall to the ground. It's crazy.

I’m a big fan of that mock.
