ESPN Predicts New Orleans To Pick 10th In 2025 NFL Draft (2 Viewers)

Is it really that far-fetched? There are many possible outcomes, but it seems a lot more realistic than us picking in the mid 20s. Until DA does anything successful as a head coach, he deserves all the doubts in the world.
it is a possible outcome... not likely

I don't know if this counts as holding ESPN accountable, but I can give some stats on their last 3 years of predictions vs. actual outcomes.

My method is to compare their preseason predicted power ranking number of each team against the next year's "raw" draft order. In this case "raw" meaning reversing any trades made or adjustments (like Dolphins losing their 1st rounder in 2022 for tampering). Basically, saying the raw draft order is the reverse of final actual ranking of previous year.

Of the 3 years reviewed, 2021 season predictions were the most accurate. There was a 5.1 ranking position average difference for the league. So, let's take the Saints for example. They were preseason ranked 19th, and they actually finished 15th giving a net positive 4 difference. The following year, they were initially ranked 20th and finished 23rd. That's a net difference of negative 3, but since we are just looking for total deviation, it counts as a positive 3 (absolute value for you math folks). This makes 7 spots off over 2 years for a 3.5 average ranking error. Anyway, that's the process.

If you're still reading after all that, here's the 3 year summary for the league:

2021 5.1 ranking positions off on average
Only 1 team finished at their predicted place (Lions at 31st)
Their double digit misses were: Bengals 26, Seahawks 15,
Ravens 13, Browns 13, Eagles 13, Raiders 10

2022 8.6 ranking positions off on average
Only 1 team finished at their predicted place (Texans at 31st)
They had 9 double digit team misses including the Rams by 24

2023 7.2 ranking positions off on average
A total of 6 teams landed exactly on their preseason ranking (Saints in that number)
The big misses were Texans 25, Bucs 23 and Chargers 19

So there you have it........ESPN"s preseason prediction scorecard for 3 years.
They've been pretty accurate on the Saints, and reasonably good in general, but with a handful of huge misses sprinkled in. With the Saints being ranked this coming season at 23rd (same as they finished in 2022), are we ripe for the huge miss category to the upside? The 2021, the Bengals were ranked 28th to start and finished 2nd. Things happen!

Nice detailed analysis, but look at the bigger picture. ESPN and its various individuals will make several predictions during the offseason. A small minority of them will come true. But then ESPN will dig up the accurate ones and say "we called it."

They are not predicting a drastic position change from last season. Idk know why some think it’s an unrealistic or unreasonable choice. If they predicted moving back to the 17th pick would it be any more unlikely.
