Free agents we should keep (1 Viewer)

Pretty sure we could find cheaper talent for the same kind of production
If you mean at LT, I think you underestimate how active that market is. Not unlike QB, lots of teams are in constant search of better protection for their QB's blindside and paying highly as a result.

I've always expected he'd get a decent offer from a team hoping he can play the spot and the reps he's put on tape this year will only help.

I know he has had injury problems in the past but Andrus Peat has been our best OL this year.

At the right price you keep him.

I feel like the market for Peat, Roach, Baun, and Yiadom is going to be a lot lower than we fear. If they leave, I expect it would be for more playing time and not a contract that's just incomparably better than the Saints if they offer.

You have to sign Peat for 2 reasons: cap and Ram/Penning.

Peat has 13.6M of dead cap bonus money due and we are 88M over the cap. The Saints have to resign an average player for cap space and will overpay to do so. That’s been our cap “management” strategy.

Ram’s knee issues and Penning’s inability to start at LT means you have few options. Hurst isn’t a starter at LT or LG. That means you may have Young and Saldivari at RT and LG. There’s no way you go into next year with Penning at the “best” option at LT.

Peat will be resigned

I doubt Baun or Yiadom will get huge contracts. Baun didn't put up a Hendrickson or Ellis kind of year so I don't think he will get a huge offer.

I think Peat is going to get bigger offers than we want. There isn't much OL depth out there in the NFL and a versatile guy who can start as a good to above average Guard and play a serviceable LT is worth a good bit. Especially to a contender which might be attractive to Peat.

Still, I think this team needs to bring him back even if they have to overpay a bit. We already likely need a new starter at RT and LT with the Ram injury and Penning busting. It seems essential to keep Peat to play LG, or step in at LT if a young player isn't ready. Otherwise, you take a step back from an already weak OL. It's essentially what happened the last time Peat was a free agent. There is so little OL talent in the NFL that even average starters with versatility to play LG/LT are very valuable.

I think we have to keep Peat. LT is his natural position and he’s flourishing. He also dealt with a lot of injuries, but that was when he was playing LG. May be the injuries aren’t as frequent if he was playing LT this entire time.
