The crew that insisted Calvin Johnson didn't make that catch last year and introduced us all to the "going to the ground' rule.

But more than anything, a crew that loves to throw roughing the passer penalties.

Man Monday night could set a record for roughing the
passer penalties.

Okay guys.... So. All I hear about the crews every week. Everyone say they sucks with some historical bad calls with a history of bad calls... YADDA YADDA

SO WHICH CREW IS ACTUALLY ANY GOOD? REALLY... THERE HAS TO BE ATLEAST ONE...?

I wish we could have the knock-kneed dude who reffed the SB and the Colts game on SNF, every week. He and his crew have an aversion to throwing flags and when they finally do, you don't even complain because it's the third quarter and you realize it's the first flag on the Saints all night.

I wish he was the norm and not the exception.

FWIW

I don't like crews who average a high number of penalties per game. That would be:

Hochuli, Triplette, Cheffers, Boger & Leavy

Maybe that is not fair, but I don't like the "throw the flag first then figure out if it's a penalty mentality"

I also don't like McAulay but that is because he never admitted he was wrong in the 2006 NFC Championship game. He even defendend his call, but I will admit for the most part he is a good ref who just can't admit he made a mistake.

Finally I don't like crews that on personal fouls "when in doubt throw the flag". But This has become a directive of the NFL. Many of the above crews follow that directive, but also Steratore & Winter.

This brings me to another subject altogether. I don't like the booth review rule --- ever. It should always be a coaches challenge. Without booth review we would never have learned about crazy rules like the tuck rule or going to the ground.

Who I do like:

Blakeman, Anderson, Coleman, Parry, Green, Riveron & Morelli (maybe Carey but he's been a bit inconsistent lately)

All refs are subject to a bad game. But if I know we are playing a big game I would prefer one of the crews from the "who do I like group".

There are. The "no name" guys. Because, let's face it, if we're bothering to learn their names, it's because our team has crossed paths with them and come up with the short end of the stick on those "judgment calls" kind of penalties.

And Ed Hochuli continues to prove my point.

this would probably be a penalty now

As long as we don't have Hochulli, I'm ok with it, he just like's to throw penalties to hear his own voice!

I think Steratore's crew is one of the best. I don't have any stats to back this up, but I just feel like when I watch a game with this crew, there doesn't seem to be many of those ridiculous calls that we see all too often.
