Saints give Mare boot after one year

The Saints agreed to three-year deals with offensive linemen Jamar Nesbit and Jonathan Goodwin on Wednesday and released kicker Olindo Mare after one turbulent season in New Orleans.

Goodwin's deal could also signal the end of center Jeff Faine's tenure with the Saints. Faine reportedly is receiving a lot of interest around the NFL, and he might be pricing himself out of the Saints' ballpark.

Goodwin is a six-year veteran who filled in when Faine was injured in the 2007 preaseaon and regular season. Terms of his deal were not disclosed, but ESPN.com reported the value at $8.5 million, which could be considered "starter's money."
