European Soccer Fans

Don't know how wild US and Canadian fans are but these guys are impressive. They're followers of Panathinaikos soccer and basketball teams, not sure how much court action they see though.

What an atmosphere. Never heard of teams having a football (soccer) and basketball team until recently.

I was watching the real football factories the other day, and they were in Belgrade. They said that Red Star Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade both had rival basketball teams aswell as football, and there were often fights between the two firms. Basketball hooliganism is the dumbest sounding thing ever.

Any excuse for some people. Here's a clip of the fans in action at a Womans volleyball tie. They put British fans to shame.

I'm sure Barcelona have both football and basketball teams too.

You would be hard pressed to ever find such a large group of Americans who could participate in such a display. We, as a whole, are so stupid that home teams have to display graphics on the jumbotron that remind fans when to cheer.

If you go to an American game you'll find that the average American fan isn't even smart enough to know to be quiet when their team has the ball and save their noise making for when the other team has it.

I can't picture an American crowd at a professional sporting event showing any kind of organization. Most are worried about where the beer vendor is, what's happening on the jumbotron or they're talking on their cell phone to somebody who is watching the game on television.

this might be a bit overwrought but i think the difference is between cultures that have ceremonies of display and those who still have ecstatic rituals - the US is primarily anglo/teutonic industrial culture -- very staid, high value placed in composure, etc (the difference being college games where you are almost required to engage in ecstatic ritual)
other places (including new orleans) have a more latin/mediterranean agricultural (or fishing) culture -- much more communal, more musical celebratory, more physical, etc

the major contradiction to this theory is, of course, japanese baseball fans :idunno: go know
