That a player has to play the quarterback position in order to win the MVP award. Obviously this isn’t true, but in today’s game all time records by a skill position player mean nothing when compared to a “great” season by a quarterback.

I have nothing against Lamar Jackson, and think he is a fine quarterback, but what Michael Thomas has been capable of doing with 3 quarterbacks, and carrying this offense when Brees went down...its incomparable. What Lamar has done has been impressive (running and throwing) but the passing part is what Drew does during a weak season.

Michael Thomas might win the OPY award (if not him, CMac will), but it isn’t right.

At the very least, it should be a close race for MVP, but unfortunately, CGM probably won't get a single vote. He probably won't get OPY either because McCaffery has been the media darling all year.

Look, all three had AMAZING years. Lamar Jackson will probably win it. CGM's accomplishments this year will last longer, but IMO, McCafferey deserves MVP. He has had a phenomenal year and they have had NOTHING, NOTHING, at quarterback. They have no other threats other than him.

I would give offensive player of year to CGM and MVP to McCaffery.

But I think CGM has been out of this world good this year.

Remember when LaDainian Thomlinson won the MVP over Brees because he set the single season TD record?

Thomlinson received 44 of the 50 votes from a nationwide panel of sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Former teammate Drew Brees, now starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, got four votes, and Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning got two.

It’s been nothing but QB’s and RB’ s since 1986.

1986- Lawrence Taylor D
1982- Mark Moseley K

And no WR has ever won the award. Ever. Not Jerry Rice, not Calvin when he had 1900 yards, no one.

That’s one of the all time single seasons, LT deserved that MVP.

It’s a record that probably never gets broken.

At the time it was annoying Drew didn’t win but in hindsight it’s one of his “worst” seasons statistically.

Only one other defensive player DT Alan Page and no other positions. Somehow the AP got to boast their MVP award is better than the other NFL MVP awards despite most of the MVP reciepients inability to win the championship game.

I thought Rice won it in 1987

The award is most valuable player, I'm sorry but a guy getting ~10 touches a game while impactful isn't the same as the guy throwing/running the ball 60 times per game. It's simple math. When you walk into a defensive coordinators office while they're scheming up a game plan for the next week, care to guess who they spend most of their time on? it's not Thomas, it's Brees. I bet if you surveyed all 32 GM's and asked which they'd take between Thomas and Jackson in a hypothetical trade situation, all 32 would say Jackson even if they had to pay him 40 million a year compared to ~18.

Cmac cannot get the OPOY over Thomas.

He's had a great season, but MT's is historic.

What's crap is CMC is even a mention for MVP when his team is terrible. 2014-2016 Brees was automatically dq'd for simply being on a 7-9 team.
I haven't heard his name for several weeks now.
