I see these Hornets and Chris Paul doing so well and my mind reflects back to perhaps This town's greatest sports hero, Pete Maravich. I did so last night as the team was wiping up the Mavs in the final few minutes of the game. That thought came into my mind that if Pete had made the playoffs and just had a chance, one chance to show his stuff, how would he do?
Because honestly he never made it to the playoffs with the Jazz in this town. He came close on several occasions but it never happened. We came to the marking spot and then drifted away into either obscurity of mediocrity. That has bothered many former NO Jazz fans here in La. because I'm sure they would want to see it too, the Dome would have broken indoor attendance records if we had made the playoffs any one of the years the Jazz made the post season. Hell look at the Arena last night it was packed, you could not come anywhere near to buying a seat because it was packed to the rafters. New Orleans has become for perhaps the second time in its history, a fanatical NBA town. it was in the mid to late 70's and now in 2007-08. these Hornets are, IMHO, the rightful heirs and NBA descendants of the old Jazz. They may have a new name and the old one exists in Utah, but these are the new Jazz, the new and improved version that will live up quite well to their potential. and somewhere in Heaven I hope Pete Maravich is smiling and telling God to make good fortune on the city and state he grew to love and gave so much and in return gave so much back
and whose legacy is still being looked at 3 decades later.
