Per PFT:

BRONCOS CUT WALKER, GOLD by Michael David Smith

The Denver Broncos have released wide receiver Javon Walker and linebacker Ian Gold, the team said on its web site.

Both were once among Denver's top players, but both are also coming off knee injuries, and both were due roster bonuses next week.

The Broncos acquired Walker in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2006, and he had a very good first year in Denver. But injuries slowed him down in his second season, and the Broncos were looking to trade him.

Although the Dallas Cowboys were among the teams interested in acquiring Walker's services, the $5.4 million roster bonus he's due may have been too much for any team to want to take on.

Gold was once a Pro Bowler, and he started all but the last two games for the Broncos last year, but the quality of his play has declined in recent years.

I don't know that he would be an upgrade at this point in his career. He would play WLB, I would imagine...if he was really cheap, and we could get him in here strictly to compete, maybe.

But I would pass.

Gold is only 29, 8 years in the league, not a big sack guy, only 1 100-tackle season (in 2002). If he came somewhat cheap, he'd be better than Shanle. I wouldn't overpay, but he is a good (not great) LB.

gold > shanle

just saying....

I don't know, as someone whos second team is the Broncos, Ian Gold was probably one of our largest complaints. He's lost a step, and his tackling was just plain god awful at times. In fact I would dread him coming here because Im right now exuberant that the Broncos finally cut him after several years of underperforming. On a LB core that wasn't much better than ours last year, he performed the worst. I'd say pass.

Well let me reconsider seeing as I haven't seen a Bronco game in awhile......Sounds like Gold's done......not even worth a plane ticket........

I agree with everyone else Gold might be minor upgrade over Shanle so he might be worth a look. But if he's looking for big FA money, let him look somewhere else.

Price isn't a problem, Denver never paid much for him but I think going after him to replace Shanle is like replacing a turd with another turd, either way you still end up with crap.

I deleted that post after I read your's since I haven't seen a Broncos in awhile. I remember the last time I saw Gold he seemed alright, But based on you assessment he doesn't seem worth spending any time on......
