Ian Rapoport: Saints to make a decision on Taysom Hill; hard to imagine Hill returning [T.Hill is turning 35 w/ 18M cap hit & ACL recovery] (17 Viewers)

Isn’t this just the “ the Saints have a decision to make about Carr…or Jordan…or Davis…or” narrative that has been going on for the last few weeks?

Taysom isn’t going anywhere. Not when our offense has as many weapons as I have shots at getting with Sydney Sweeney.

Kellen is going to use Taysom as much as possible.

Besides, they’re Idaho Potato bros.

I think the team may reach out to Hill about renegotiating that $10m base salary. They could guarantee a portion of it and replace some of the dollars with incentives so he can earn it back if he returns healthy. It would be a win for both sides, as Hill is unlikely to have a big market in free agency due to his age and injury.

Was reading earlier that Moore could use Hill like a Hurts style qb. Now I know alot of people has that ship sailing with Taysom as QB, but he does have a 6-2 or 6-3 record as a starter something like that. Anything is possible with an offensive mind like Moore. Definitely would be better than a Milroe in my opinion.

He is older than Carr...

What would you get out of trying to play him at QB?

I haven’t even thought of him playing Taysom as a full time quarterback, but you can certainly do worse than use Taysom in the Philly “tush push” situation better than you can Derek Carr.

I just think with so few weapons on this team, jettisoning one of your most versatile ones probably makes as much sense as smoking crack with the Mayor of DC.

good luck with Sydney Sweeny - as a saints fan i've trained for irrational expectations - pulling for you

He might be a cap casualty. If you want to build a younger team through the draft these are the type of tough decisions that have to be made.

I can see him coming back in a reduced role, but if we draft TE and RB high, there may not be enough touches for him given the price tag.

At some point we're going to see him struggle in his role due to age. I honestly don't know when that will be. There's already hints that its begun, for example often being injured this past season. He played 8 out of 17 games.

As much as I hate to say it, his contract was awful. If the goal is to cut a player before you owe them a bunch of money and they struggle to contribute due to age, we should be moving on from him.

I love what Taysom has done for us on and off the field, but for me I would see if Sean would want him for a pick or he is cap cut. Plus we don't even know how his body will respond after that injury. The better teams know its best to let a player leave/go a year before that player's skill start diminishes.
