We forced 15 turnovers in the first 7 games of the season. We've forced 2 in the 7 games since. Through 7 games the Saints were 6-1. Since we're 4-3 and have slunk back to a turnover differential of 0 on the season. That has to change if we're going to make a postseason run.

Have the opportunities really been there for us to capitalize?

over those 7 games the defense is avg 21 ppg, thats certainly good enough to win. then you look at what the offense has done in those 3 losses, 20 points, 7 points, 16 points. Not to mention the offense has handed the opposition points early in at least 2 of those losses.

Well, we're definitely playing complimentary football to lose. Our offense has been giving the ball away and our defense can't take it away. Our defense get's 20+ scored on em in the first half and our offense can't score much at all in the first half. We need to change that this Sunday and stay consistent with it if we do because it's put up or shut up time.

Ya think the average of over 2 extra possessions per game helped the offense PPG a bit? In 2009, the offense averaged 20.25 ppg when forcing less than 2 turnovers. Even remove the meaningless week 17 game and it's still about 24.5 ppg. In 2011 we lost 3 regular season games. We didn't create a turnover in 2 of them. In the other 2 games that we managed to win in 2011 despite not creating a turnover we scored 27 (Tampa) and 22 (Tennessee).

I'm not absolving the offense of blame, but turnovers create points and wins.

yeah, especially for the other team. we had 6 turnovers in the last 3 losses. just looking at the losses this year....

new england, defense gave the offense 2 chances to put the game away, but they couldnt.

against the jets, defense gave the offense 2 min to go down and win the game and they couldnt gain a yard.

against the seahawks we just got blown out.

against the rams offense had 3 turnovers and could only muster 16 points on 6 possessions in the redzone.

Offense was supposed to be the strength of this team, everyone was saying if the defense was just average we would be great... well the defense is well above average.

It's almost a fluke to produce as few turnovers as we have over this stretch. That's bad luck too. Even bad defenses (see us last year) get some balls bounce to them.

Starting Sunday through February would be a great time for that trend to turn around and the turnovers to start rolling in.

It's fortunate the defense improved because other than Brees running the show the offense has regressed.

There's a few issues in play but the biggest is the OL just doesn't consistently move anybody off the Line of Scrimmage...we can't get a 3rd and 1 running the ball...all the problems are tied to that fact....

We're weak exactly in the place you need to be playing well this time of year and the ability scheme around it and rely on Brees is wearing out.

Great observations....
