The right is attacking Carter for alleged race baiting because of his statements in which he stated that some of the radical opposition to President Obama is racially motivated. Why is most of the media ignoring facts that point to truth within this assessment?
For instance, Joe Wilson's history is marred in facts that lead one to believe he truly is a racist. He was a former page to Strom Thurmond and must have shared some of his political beliefs. In fact, he might have held a stricter view of segregation than his former boss did. Senator Thurmond's segregationist beliefs did not not seem to apply to miscegenation, since after his death, his illegitimate daughter, Essie Mae Washington Williams, revealed her existance. Born from the sexual activities of Senator Thurmond and his then 16-year old African American child-maid Carrie Butler, Essie had her existence hidden until after the senator's death.
Upon revealing herself to the public, Representative Joe Wilson attacked her and her story. He stated that "it's a smear" and a way to "diminish" his legacy. Why would it diminish Thurmond's legacy if his reasoning wasn't racially motivated? Of course, after Thurmond's own family admitted the truth of Essie's assertions, Wilson gave one of his heart-felt apologies. It must have been just as warm as the one given to President Obama.
Knowing what we do know about Rep. Joe Wilson's political beliefs and background, how can we afford not-to-see his "You Lie" outburst as racially motivated?
