I'm graduating from the University of South Alabama this coming Saturday and while I will most likely have one job, it's not exactly what I want. I will graduate with a BS in Information Technology with a focus on web design and a minor in Communication. I want to do something in web design or web development. I've also worked as a network administrative intern for 1.5 years at the USA Children's and Women's Hospital. I live in Mobile, AL but I am not against moving if it can wait until after December (my wife and I just had a baby in November and it would be difficult to move with the holidays and graduation and the baby all together). I can supply a resume and references if needed.

All I can say is goodluck! The job market for IT seems to be over saturated with people... or that's what it seems to me.

Look towards the Dallas/Ft Worth market, especially if you know Java. jrdbrn is right, the IT market is oversaturated, but companies are still looking for bright individuals. Your edge will be whether or not you can understand and come up with solutions for interesting problems.

While you are looking for a position, might I recommend two books? Programming Pearls and The Practice of Programming will serve you well as both an insight into thinking beyond the textbook and an understanding of what developers of serious products need to understand.

I'll recommend two books of my own:

Design Pattens
Code Complete

its the fastest growing field in the US

of the top ten fastest growing careers in the country, 7 are in IT

If you are willing to move I have the same degree and I did not have a problem finding a job in Houston.

Actually my wife and I love in north Houston (The Woodlands area) away from the big city stuff. There are multiple custom software companies that deal mostly with the oil and gas industry. They also have some of them that deal with web design.

The link above is to a position with a company in The Woodlands. I have never dealt with them, but the position sounds like something you could be interested in. If you are willing to move this area is very nice and a good place to raise a family, plus we could always use more Saints fans over here.
