NFL Draft QB Jalen Milroe’s development? [April 7: Saints worked out Jalen Milroe] [Seahawks draft Milroe in 3rd round, pick #92] (2 Viewers)

Maybe teams see him as the next Lamar due to his athleticism... I have no idea, but I know its not because of his passing. The kid has eye-popping measurables, and by all accounts his extremely high character and is a born leader.

Maybe its my hate for Alabama (being an LSU guy) but I don't want to see the Saints draft him. At all. But here's your obligatory Milroe highlight video.

And scouting report (edit correct video added)

Yeah, as an LSU fan, I hated when LSU would face him. They knew exactly what they needed to do to stop him, and he still went bonkers on them.

CKM just won a SB with a player who is a better passer, but not as good of a runner. I'm at the point where I plan to get behind whoever CKM decides to go with.

I'm not familiar with his history, but he doesn't seem ready to be an NFL quarterback. Maybe it's the coaching change, but Tua and Bryce were light years ahead in terms of passing abilities.

We have way too many team needs to go drafting a dude w/such a massive boom or bust variance. Those in favor can easily hug on to the mutant traits & potential, while the opposed can simply point to the film & the on field product throughout his Jeckyll & Hyde college career.

From someone who actually started out as a fan, & i personally think Milroe is far too inconsistent across the board to be drafted in the first 2 rounds. Milroe is tough & can absolutely take on, play through & make the throw through contact, but the football IQ & decision making on the hoof & under pressure are suspect as hell. He’s so inaccurate in the short/intermediate areas of the field, it’s CRAZY. His anticipation & ability to throw receivers open are well below the standard, especially entering the pros. I mean, if he’s getting baited & picked by college players, dudes in the NFL will eat him alive.

If we’re taking him to be an offensive weapon, a la the Taysom role, w/one of our 3rds, cool. But if we’re rolling the dice on his ceiling in RD2 to be our potential QB1 w/all that EDGE, DL, CB, RB, WR, & IOL talent still on the board, id be bummed for sure. Id rather have Kyle Mccord or even Ewers on Day 3 than Milroe at any point in this draft. I used to be a fan, & i still want to like him cause the dude legit seems like a really good guy & teammate. But he has just as many negatives as he has positives. To me, Milroe is a lesser version of Anthony Richardson.

I like Milroe, but the Saints are not picking him at #9, and I'd be really surprised if he were still around at #40.

Hurts and Lamar were both better passes at this stage than Milroe. I don't think he's worth a first-round pick as a passer.
Probably not but he’s more physical as a runner then both a little better from what I’ve seen and better than taysom at throwing and I say you try to get him early 2nd

I'm not sure if that's a good thing, as the goal is for him to be a pass-first quarterback. Is the goal to draft a QB or draft a weapon?

That’s old school
You don’t see the transition
Most of today’s QBs are a threat to run

You don’t force him to pass or run
You teach him to make time right play and make defenses pay
I do think a dominant back is pivotal for it to work

I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying, and it's a reflection of old arguments.
Let's take the top four consensus guys for example: Patrick, Lamar, Josh and Joe. You may want to throw in Justin, Jalen, or maybe Jayden.
All of those guys can beat you from the pocket if needed, but they all have above-average mobility. Milroe has a ways to go as a passer, and that's my issue.

Most of them do not beat you from the pocket though they beat you off of broken plays and improvising is it still passing yes but none of those guys are picking you apart like tom Brady Peyton manning or Phillip rivers
Mahomes is the closest and often times his best plays are not in the pocket he makes smart plays he’s very accurate but his legs play a huge part in his game

He may not pass as well as those guys but that’s why you get him talent like Jeanty to carry the load

To me the idea with Milroe would be to develop him as a passer while you give him pass plays that he is comfortable with and use his running skills. It's what the Ravens did with Lamar.

And I think he's worth a high round pick because even if he never becomes the passer Lamar is now, maybe it's still good enough to win a lot of games with his mobility. And, if he doesn't show enough progress after 3 or 4 years, you can always use him in Wildcat packages.
