Jets to interview Darren Rizzi [on January 11th] (4 Viewers)

I definitely don’t want him as our head coach, and I doubt very strongly that he’d get the Jets job. Yes, I will support him fully if he gets our job. However, I really hope he goes somewhere other than the Jets and continues coaching up the special teams unit. I doubt he’d want to stay here in that role.

knowing the saints aren't hiring him, what a good move to swoop in and then be like "hey come be our ST Coach since the saints thru you in the trash"

That would be great for him to be able to go back close to home. I don’t think either side is going to want him to come back here as ST coach after being interim HC for half a season.

Instead of "nobody beats the Wiz" on ads in New York, it could be "nobody beats Da Rizz!" :ROFLMAO:

Indeed, he's from the NE, so he's like a local. People in Miss. accuse me of being from the NE all the time because I talk like the N.O. native I am, ha.

Beyond that, I can't foresee a scenario where a new coach would keep an interim coach on the staff. I don't mean this as an indictment of Rizzi, but in general an interim coach tends to be loved. They tend to be coaches that the players speak up for and play hard for after the appointment. Again, I'm not saying this would happen with Rizzi, but the last thing a new head coach would want is the potential for another coach to be the "sounding board" or "have the ear of the players" behind the head coach's back.

It's one thing when you retain a staff member that was a position coach, etc. But again, an interim coach that had that leadership role just doesn't make sense to me if I'm essentially taking over the role from that person in their capacity as a leader.

Maybe he ends up the ST coach there, but the interview is for the HC job. Many had speculated that he would get this interview given his connection to the NJ/NY area. According to Underhill, Rizzi is always talking about how much he loves the Northeast.
