New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is a member of the NFL Competition Committee, a panel of eight members representing upper management in the NFL. The committee is handpicked by league commissioner Roger Goodell, and ultimately puts two head coaches, two general managers, two team presidents, and two team owners in the same room to break down important issues.

One of those members is Denver Broncos general manager John Elway, who took questions during media availability at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. Elway outlined the steps the committee will go through in the wake of the 2018 NFC championship game, where the on-site officiating crew missed a blatant pass interference penalty on the Los Angeles Rams, helping them reach Super Bowl LIII. Elway isn’t eager to see another mistake like that embarrass the NFL:

“(We’re) just going through the process right now and getting all the information, taking information in from all the different sub-committees,” Elway explained. “Then we visit those when we get to Arizona for the Owners Meetings and put it together there. We’re really just taking information at this point and time.”

What other info is still outstanding?
  1. NFL needs a thriving franchise in L.A.
  2. Rams were league darlings all season
  3. Officiating crew were L.A. locals
  4. Fouls obvious to any sentient being were purposely ignored
Other than who actually greased whose palms, there's no mystery to this, Sherlock. (n)?:littleclown::mad:

That sort of contradicts earlier reports.

The first article posted here was the general feeling after the committee heard from the referee's union on the matter. They are still going to be hearing different perspectives from other groups up until the official meeting in AZ.

So obviously, it's already over and everyone should panic.

No rule is going to fix blatant disregard for the rules. If we had the sky judge in the dome for that game, and he was under the same strict instructions the refs on the field were given... The sky judge says he didn't see the early hit, interference, helmet-to-helmet, targeting, face-guard. The outcome stays the same.

Same thing happens in over-time. You can't stop cheaters from cheating the rules, by adding more rules rules. It's a nice thought, but we're fooling ourselves if you think positive change will come from this. The league screwed up, but they screwed up on purpose, and got the results they wanted. Making the plays reviewable or over-turnable would actually give them more power to get the results they want, not less.
