Yesterday during halftime of the Seattle GB game Alice in Chains performed a number of songs to a mildly ruckus crowd (or so I am told). One of the songs that they performed was "Man in the Box", and Layne Stayley wasn't signing it (for well known reasons). I just saw the performance (on YouTube), and I think it's time for AIC to retire that song. It doesn't have the same feeling, and you can tell.

I remember my first concert was Lallapallooza at UNO back in 93. That song came on and you just felt it. Maybe it was because I was there and hearing it live, while this performance I saw a day later on YouTube, but without Layne it's just not the same.

What song do you think people should quit performing if it's not the original singer performing it?

"Oye Me Guaguancó" without Tito Puente should be illegal.

Just looked it up and watched the performance...

Not sure what you're saying unless you are trying to directly compare Duvall to Staley?

I thought it was a great performance and I would pay to see it. No one will ever replace Staley and I don't think AIC ever tried to do that. Duvall has a much bluesier voice and delivery compared to Staley's soul-wrenching tortured demon scream. And with a song like Man in the Box, you can't recreate Staley's connection to the lyrics and heartfelt emotion, but you can pay tribute to the song and connect to it in another way. Like with this performance, they emphasized Jerry's talk box over Duvall. So it's different, but you think they should never perform the song again, really?

And with that being said , Duvall has had some Staleyesque vocals. The first time I heard Check my Brain, I thought for sure that was Layne from the grave.

its not the original but its not half bad, would of rather they had done the National Anthem then that American Idol runner up

No they got some girl from the area to do the National Anthem that lost Idol instead
