In New York you get an automatic one-year suspension of your license (these are almost always applied by the home state for out of state drivers) for refusing to take the chemical test (which is what they call the breathalyzer test in NY).

People have that been in the entertainment industry since they were kids are often totally out of touch with reality and not particularly well educated.
