The well-rested Saints, the NFC's No. 2 seed, are favored to turn back the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the Superdome and advance to the NFC championship game. Such has never happened before in the 40-year history of the Saints.
The Eagles, winner of six straight games and the hottest team in the NFL are hoping to get off to a quick start against the Saints because teams, even when rested, even when favored, sometimes start slowly in the playoffs. In the past five years of divisional playoffs games, -- 20 games total -- the home team (which sat the previous week with a bye) was shut out eight times in the first quarter. In two-thirds of those games, the home team scored at a higher rate after the first quarter than it did to start out.
