1) Sean Payton - the gap between him and everyone else is enormous . No disrespect to Jim Mora . We got to see what it’s like to have a legend , a special talent , an all time great .
Unfortunately we are also being reminded what’s it’s like not to have that .

2) Jim Mora - probably the most detail oriented coach we ever had . I think the saints lead the league or was close to the top of the league in least penalty’s when he was coach .

Made the saints respectable for the first time in franchise history . First playoff appearances but never got over the hump as far as winning playoffs games . Offense way too conservative and played not to lose.

3) Jim Haslett - underrated . Did a good job . Had a few off the field issues and at the end it got ugly but some of those issues were not his fault . Won 1st playoff game in team history

4) Dennis Allen - only reason he is not dead last on this list is due to the next guy on the list . And I never would have thought that the next guy on the list would ever have any competition for the last spot in my lifetime . But I have to tell you it’s close . The only reason DA is not dead last on this list is because he does not have near the power the last guy did with the draft and free agency .

But he’s in completely over his head . We should have known it was a bad hire the day CGJ was traded for basically nothing . I’m 100% sure that if Payton was still coach he be on the saints today .

The QB situation and lying about injuries .

A few weeks ago he tells us Winston is healthy but they playing Dalton anyway .

This week he tells us Winston is still not 100% so they staying with Dalton .

Does not know how to use the IR
How many players have missed 4 to 6 weeks and was not put on IR ?

Letting L Murray get away to Denver was inexcusable .

5) Mike Ditka- DA is very lucky he found his Mississippi .
Like I said earlier the only reason Ditka is last on this list is due to the fact he was terrible on the field and off the field . His drafts were a joke .

The R Williams trade .
The drafting of the college all stars like Danny Wuerffel , Troy Davis , etc that had no NFL projection.

Then they trade the #1 pick of the draft and trade down to #10 and draft a guard ,

When they had a HOF tackle they could have drafted with the #1st pick .

I am 100% convinced that Peyton Manning stayed in college 4 years only because the saints had the #1 pick his junior season and did not want to do an Eli Manning to the saints like Eli did to the chargers .

And this was not because of the saints it was because of Ditka .

If Mora was still there he probably would have come out as a junior and the saints would have drafted Manning #1

The crazy/sad thing is before Haslett and Payton came along Ditka was #3 all time in franchise history in wins...

Also we didn't have the #1 pick in 1997. It was #2. Although we still could have nabbed an HOF OT in that slot (Walter Jones)

Haslett coached the team to their 1st EVER playoff win. Even though he was largely a moron, that gets him some props.

Mora brought them out of the dumpster and into the parking lot…

Payton was easily the best… and he always will be.

If Sean Payton was the “Drew Brees” of Saints head coaches… Dennis Allen is the “Heath Shuler”.

I was tempted to put DA in "Steve Walsh" territory. But after looking it up, Steve Walsh won one more game than he lost, so DA has some ground to make up before he can reach that level.

Shuler somehow managed to go 4-5 with us despite throwing 2 td's against 14 (!!!!) int's.

Ditka won a ring (even though it was Ryan's defense that did the heavy lifting), so he could never be behind DA.

Theres just no way I can put Allen ahead of Ditka. Im by no means saying Ditka was good here. Tied for last is as best I can do. Ditka wouldve won more games with the roster Allen inherited. At least Ditka was not mistaken for a corpse on the sideline. Any kind of emotion is better than none.

Haslett had enough talent to make the playoffs every year, he was just not good at discipline (penalties, letting Joe Horn become a team leader then allowing to disrespect coaches & dog it in practice)

I've never seen anything like Ditka's time here, made me question how many more Super Bowls Chicago could have won without him around. An unhinged nut. It was refreshing just to have Haslett acting like a professional as opposed to Ditka's loony press conferences

 Long ago, there was a post on here that quoted an article ranking Shuler as the worst QB in the history of the NFL. The history of Saints QBs is not pretty.

Neither should be on that list. Like someone else said... It's Payton... Mora... And everyone else

Hank Stram would have led the Saints to their first playoff appearance had he not been fired….he built the late 70’s teams that went 7-9 and 8-8….they underachieved under Dick Nolan (if memory serves) and the team fell totally apart in 1980….Mechum was an idiot….

We already had a HOF Ot in Roaf so I understand not drafting a tackle.
