Stores, health care add employees

Friday, December 28, 2007 By Kimberly Quillen

The New Orleans labor market is slowly regaining its footing after Hurricane Katrina.

According to a report released Thursday by the Louisiana Department of Insurance, there were 510,300 non-farm jobs available in the seven-parish metro area during November, an increase of 1,600 from October and 15,200 from November 2006.

Sectors involving ambulatory health care, general merchandise stores transportation and warehousing utility all added jobs in November. During the past several months New Orleans has steadily added jobs, placing the metro area solidly on a growth track, Labor Department analyst Patty Granier said.
