It's all pretty silly. If Jason Garrett wins the Super Bowl he will definitely be extended, that's beyond debate. What if he goes to the NFCCG? Probably. Winning the division or making it to the divisional round with a wildcard win? Maybe? Probably?

And if he doesn't do those those things, most people would expect he wouldn't get renewed. So does this "reporting" tell us anything? Not really.
 
If Jerry Jones wants to win a SB, he had better not hire Payton, because Goodell and his refs would not let it happen.

But if he'd rather disrespect Goodell, hiring Payton would be a perfectly logical thing to do.
 
Sean have total control here. Why would he go to the Cowboys? Unless Jerry give up TOTAL CONTROL, Payton wouldn’t go to Cowboys. Only team I see Payton going to, is a team where he has total control.
 
I would very disappointed if Payton saw any team as a better fit than the Saints. He can retire with legit legendary status here. There is no higher position.
 
According to Jerry Jones, there would be a line around the block to hire Jason Garrett if he fired him.
 
I don't know why everyone thinks Jerry and Payton have this great infatuation to team up. I can promise you that Payton has no desire to work for Jerry Jones ... ZERO. Payton may like Jerry a lot as an owner who is fun to talk to and pull pranks on but to work for is different. Payton has a lot of control with the saints, he would not have that with the Jones family. Parcells is Paytons mentor, parcells would advise against it. Paytons wife liked Dallas which is why she moved back with the kids, Paytons connections to Dallas has been his kids.

Not extending Garrett is just Jerry being Jerry. Jerry jumps on the league trends a day late and just because he thinks its the way things are going. He just signed a very young Kellen Moore to be OC, he is jumping on the trend of young coaches making waves this year.

Garrett has been on the hot seat for a few years and making he playoffs saved him this year. If he does not make the NFCG next year he will be replaced. Bank on that.
 
Where do you find another coach that already has the ventriloquist dummy levers inside to allow Jerry complete control?

Unless Dallas makes a few changes, they could very well go backward next year.

I think part of it that there are so many former Cowboys that come back to work there. It just gives the impression that there is a chance.
