I applied for a local job as a computer specialist position that begins January 1, 2009 due to construction of their new facility.

I went on the job interview last month, October 8 to be exact, and everything seemed to go great. The IS manager asked questions and I answered them well, in my opinion. The interview itself lasted about 70 minutes. They seemed very interested as they walked me to the door showing me the location for their new office building and heliport. I also asked them about the followup timeframe. He told me if I didn't receive a call from him in 2 weeks to give him a call.

Let's fast forward 2 weeks to October 24, 2008. I give him a call and do the followup call. He sounds very enthused that I called and states he wants to speak with me more about the job and if I can start earlier than January. He told me he wanted to call me "next week". It's 7 business days later and I have yet to hear from him. Would it be best to call him again? If so, what should I say? I don't want to become a nuisance, but this is a job opportunity that I think I can excell at and really enjoy the job.

It is becoming depressing

can you email him -- less intrusive and will give you a good picture of where he is coming from -- it could very well be he wants you for the job but the company put a freeze on hiring -- or unfortunately could be more ominous and you are their second choice and they are waiting to see if the other guy takes it -- But if you do email him try to think of a different reason then sounding desperate --

Should I email him direct or send one to their HR department? I know some companies won't tell you anything unless you speak to HR.

if you email then email him direct.

Here is probably what is going on. This guy I am sure wants to hire you. At least that is what I get from what he has told you. HE is probably busy busy busy and he will call you just before he needs you and hope you can just jump and go!

I would give it one more week. IF he has not contacted you I would send him and email and say something like hey I just wanted to check in. I have not heard from you in a couple weeks and I wanted to make sure everything was going good yada yada yada

HE will reply and he will probably tell you how busy he has been and that is why he has not gotten in touch with you any sooner.

I know it is depressing but just wait it out. Some times these things take time because they are not extremely high on the priority list of the employer

He's in IT and a manager, he's probably busy. I hope you get the job and you sound excited.

On another note, I went on an interview it lasted 2 hours, I thought it went well, didn't get the job. Sometimes, it seems like everything is a perfect fit and it doesn't work out. Keep applying for jobs and keep going on interview until you get a firm job offer. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket.

I emailed their HR department Tuesday and called him Wednesday (left voicemail), but I haven't received any reply/call back. Eh...

Thank you all for your input. I was offered the job today! Took a while and I was nervous, but I finally received a call :) The pay is in the upper region of what I requested so that is exceeeeeeeeeeellent :)

Talk about a load off my chest... wow.

Nice... congrats! Now you must change your "still waiting for a call" tag. :hihi:
