The New Orleans Saints have offered a one-year contract tender to restricted free agent linebacker Jonathan Casillas, according to ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas. They reportedly tendered him at the lowest level, which means they have the right to match any other offers he receives but would not receive any draft-pick compensation if he leaves.
That low tender level is expected to be set at around $1.26 million.
Casillas, who turns 25 in June, could compete for a starting job at weakside linebacker, depending on what else the Saints do at the position in free agency. He started four games last year, while finishing the regular season with 57 tackles, three sacks and three pass defenses -- though a knee injury sidelined him for four games late in the year.
