NFL player comparisons for top prospects -- NFL draft

Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson (Rank: 25)

Statistical comps: Bruce Irvin, J.J. Watt, Mario Williams

A slightly less quick Irvin with Williams' strength and Watt's vertical/height comparison? Yikes. Both Beasley and Irvin are exactly 6-3 and within one pound of each other. Beasley's speed/quickness measurables fall just shy of Irvin's, but his 35 bench press reps at 246 pounds match Williams' (at 295) and beat Watt's (34 at 290). The sum of Beasley's height, arm length and vertical jump is actually higher than the sum of Watt's scores. --J.P.

Scouting comp: Bruce Irvin

The gap in power and size are too much for me to get on board with the comparisons to Watt and Williams, who were far better run defenders than Beasley coming out of college. Clay Matthews is another name worth mentioning, but you'd be hard-pressed to come up with a better comparison than Irvin considering his explosiveness rushing off the edge and his need to win with quickness to be effective against the run. --S.M.

^Yes Please!!!

Beasley has more power and bend than Irving.

Beasley is more Robert Mathis than anyone else. I don't see the Bruce Irvin comparison, besides the speed.

Also, I know they're different positions and body types, but I would say Shelton's game compares to JJ Watt's game (but nobody really compares to JJ).

Cold day in hell if Beasley drops to 13th. Swear I wouldn't mind eating crow tho.

I feel weird gushing over Beasley because I know he's going to be a Falcon unless we jump in front of them.

Lol, this. Many of us have been drooling over the prospect of drafting this guy but just watch. The second the falcons take him at #8 all of the sudden he's going to become the most overrated player in the draft and a certified bust according to the SSF.

But as far as the comparisons go, JJ Watt? Really? Why compare this dude, or anybody else for that matter, to Watt? That just isn't fair. I've only seen a handful of guys who can take over a game from the DE position like Watt can. Reggie White and Bruce Smith comes to mind. Watt is like a bigger, better pass rushing version of Howie Long.

I think a more fair comparison would be with Robert Mathis. Beasley has more in common with Mathis than he does with Watt or Super Mario.

They were just comparing Beasley to Watts vertival/height comparison not the player himself.
