Excerpts from a 9/16/24 article by Dante Koplowitz-Fleming, NFL Researcher, as viewed at www.nfl.com

NFL Research offers the best nuggets from each week of games in the NFL. Here are the most eye-popping statistical accomplishments from Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.

1) Kubiak's offense surging in first two weeks of NFL action

Early candidate for the NFL AP Assistant Coach of the Year … Klint Kubiak? Through two games, the Saints offense is absolutely humming, totaling 91 points (New Orleans scored 36 combined points in Weeks 1-2 last season).

The only team since the 1970 merger to score more points through two games than the 2024 Saints were the 2009 Saints, who put up 93 in their first two games.

That season ended in a Super Bowl XLIV victory for New Orleans.

2) Alvin Kamara scores four touchdowns in Dallas

The primary beneficiary of the Saints' offensive fireworks has been running back Alvin Kamara. The eight-year vet scored four touchdowns and accrued 180 scrimmage yards against Mike Zimmer's Cowboys defense in Week 2. The last time Kamara faced Zim was on Christmas Day 2020 when he tied an all-time record with six touchdowns. Doing a little napkin math here … that makes 10 touchdowns in Kamara's last two games versus a Mike Zimmer-coached defense.

Pretty good.

Week 2, 2024 was Kamara's second career game with at least 150 yards and four touchdowns from scrimmage (previous was also the aforementioned Christmas game).

The only players in the Super Bowl era with more such games are Hall of Fame backs LaDainian Tomlinson (four) and Marshall Faulk (three).

This was also Kamara's 12th career game with at least one touchdown rushing and receiving, tying Hall of Famer Lenny Moore and Eagles legend Brian Westbrook for the third-most such games in NFL history.

Only Faulk and Christian McCaffrey have more (15 each).

150 plus yards from scrimmage along with 4 plus TDs is certainly a pretty rare feat. Alvin may not ever catch Tomlinson or Faulk. Being 3rd is special in of itself.

Having at least One Rushing TD and One Receiving TD in the same game is something more likely that Kamara will accomplish. He looks fresh and rejuvenated in this system, and he could move into 3rd place alone with just one more such game. Currently sitting at 12, he only needs 3 more to tie Faulk and possibly McCaffrey.

This is a record watch for AK41 that he could move up the ladder as early as this week ahead.

Barely a sliver of the season has been played, let's pump the brakes.

It's a fantastic start and they certainly look like a Super Bowl contender, but there's a LONG WAY to go.

Nothing to pump the brakes about. Rather put the pedal to the metal.

It's been a Great two game Start. Everyone should understand that it's a long way from a Finish.

Nothing was said about contending for the Super Bowl. The title of the NFL article (not my words) says a Super Bowl Level Start.

The article cited one statistic that was on par with what the 2009 New Orleans Saints accomplished.

The other stats were individual accomplishments by Alvin Kamara and where he currently ranks in those categories.

Hopefully he can continue the pace in which he has played so far this season and build on those records he has already accomplished.

It's OK to get excited and it will be even better if we can stay that way all season. It's also OK if you want to temper yours. For now I'm full of glee.
