Underhill: Saints are interviewing probably 12-13 coaches for Head Coach position [ Tracker: 5 scheduled interviews] (20 Viewers)

And I bet all of them have been to New Orleans before and even met Sean Payton at one point. Pssh. Loomis and his big ego cannot handle people thinking anybody other than he built the Saints and that's why he will hire someone who will remind everyone of the time Payton was here. All 12 potential candidates are trash, I already know without even looking up who they are.

Is that how you do it?

This sounds like nothing more than political talk for relations with fans. It's extremely clear what Loomis wants to do. It's going to be Aaron Glenn or Joe Brady, and Joe Brady will likely have better options then the Saints.

As someone else already pointed out, Loomis interviewed quite a few people before hiring Dennis Allen, and we all know that the decision was made prior to the interviews. This is going to be no different. Let's not forget that there are also rules in the NFL on how many coaching candidates have to be interviewed before hiring someone. I think its two?
What a load of bunk. How is it "clear" what Loomis intends to do? Where, apart from your own blind hatred of Loomis, is this clarity coming from?

I might be wrong. But I think many are being too hard on Loomis. When Loomis hired Payton, it wasn't because he was the more experienced or most sought-after candidate. I thought there were better options. I believe he was a QB coach for Dallas, and he was demoted while with the Giants. But he was the one who "Wowed" Loomis the most even if he was maybe the most inexperienced.

I understand the DA hire because the thinking was that the fall-off in Payton's last year was injuries, etc. and that the train would stay on the tracks with DA. Now that that's clearly not the case, I don't think he changes from wanting to be "Wowed" rather than someone he knows. And if it is someone like AG, it will be because he gave the best interview, not because Loomis knows him.
I agree. I never said that he was a bad GM. I'm saying that it is possible that he already knows who the best guy is to be the new head coach and may have already discussed whether said coach has any interest in the position. But even if the choice is still wide open I'd be shocked if he doesn't have a particular name or two on the top of his wish list. The decision may come down to how much control is demanded by the new hire and how much Mickey is willing to surrender.

Loomis obviously knows more about his job than any media talking head or blow hard forum fan thinks he does. And he knows how important his next hire is for the future of this franchise. He may never find another Sean Payton, but he has enough phone numbers in his Rolodex to make his search a pretty thorough one. No, we as fans don't get to make the decision. But I don't believe any of us could do better at signing a winner than the general manager Ms. Benson has running the show. All we can do is wait and support. We'll be one of about a half dozen fan bases this offseason who are hoping we get it right this time.

Just a terrible head coach.

0-2 in the postseason

Reports, multiple reports talk about his terrible leadership in Chicago

Multiple reports say he had accountability issues in Chicago

Multiple reports say and show that he fired multiple offensive coaches blaming them for the offense when he was the issue, once he gave up play calling (after refusing to do this for multiple seasons) they slightly improved

He hasn’t done anything to help the Chiefs, and there’s many Chiefs fans that talk about what a terrible job he’s done in KC (google gives many examples to read about on this one)

He's just bad, there is no reason we should have to settle for such a terrible option

Only a fool doesn't take history into account. While history doesn't repeat it often rhymes. Prior to interviewing anyone for head coach after Payton left rumors broke that Loomis was going to hire Dennis Allen. Loomis then interviewed many candidates, then hired Dennis Allen as head coach. I think the better question is how do you not see a similar pattern merging? It's literally slapping you across the face at this point.

Nailed it. 😂

Nagy is an awful coach. The Bears were hot garbage under him.

If you think he's doing anything for the Chiefs. He's not. That's all Andy Reid. Nagy has a nice title right now in Kansas City but all he's doing is a similar role to when he was with the Chiefs back in 2017, which is mostly just QB communication.

Then look at the Bears. They were bad under him, and he completely fumbled Justin Fields. It's not a coincidence that Fields was trash under him, immediately goes to Mike Tomlin and plays very well.

The Bears drafts were also abysmal while he was there. And no, head coaches are in part responsible for that.

Then there's all the reports of players and others in the NFL talking about how awful Nagy is as a person and a coach.

No. Just No. This is Dennis Allen hire 2.0.

I rather Gruden over the names I’m hearing. We need a coach with Fire , who holds the players accountable, and who is good with the X’s and O’s. We haven’t had that since Coach Payton. I also remember him whooping our arse with Coach Payton when we played in Vegas.

Agreed…and if the hire is made, I’d imagine this would indeed be a part of the reasoning. We could use a new bully/sheriff in the building, a guy players are afraid to disappoint.

Going from Payton to Allen was too extreme of a culture change, and it showed in the lackadaisical results and lack of attention to the little things.

Bingo and people forget that Coach Payton learned under Gruden as well as a qb coach in Philadelphia. I believe we can win the division with Gruden as HC as early as next year. Players also respect him. I remember listening to players speak about him when he visited for training camp last year.

Even if Loomis already has a handshake deal with his choice for head coach, he is still going to interview a dozen candidates. Any GM must make it look like it was a legitimate search for the best coach available. I’d be surprised if the new door plaque for the head coach office isn’t already engraved.
You think Loomis is really conducting a kabuki dance with 11 grown men? If so, then Loomis needs to go now.

How so? Aaron Glenn isn't Dennis Allen. They worked together, sure. So what?
