I know by rule OL must be between 50-79.

I think QB must be between 1-19.

DL have to be between 90-99????

I used to think WR and TE had to be in the 80’s.....but that’s not the case. At least for WR, not sure about TE.

AK seems like the only 41 Rb in NFL history, though I can’t confirm that.

Seems RB have always been between 20-39.......with fullbacks getting the obligatory “42”.

K/P always single digits.

Are these by rule, or just traditions over time?

LBs seem to have exclusive rights to 50’s.

Wow.
That chart from above link is actually really interesting.
Tried to paste but couldn’t.......

Just thinking currently, Kenyan Drake wears 41.

Darren Sproles was 43.

I’m seeing LBs these days with lower numbers (Jeremy Chin wears 21). Is it because he was assigned the number as ostensibly some kind of safety hybrid? If he plays LB all season does he have to get a new number next year?

Probably like the Ty Montgomery #88 as an RB.

Ty Montgomery was grandfathered in as a Receiver with number 88 and he was switched to RB so he gets to keep that number no matter what. Ruiz is #51 drafted as a center grandfathered in so no matter what position on the line he plays that 51 stays lol
