1 st round picks…..

Faugu
Penning
Mccoy
Ruiz

(Ramcyzk and Peat)

There are SO MANY teams that have good/great OL’s and doesn’t require all 1st round picks.

Why can we only succeed if all our 1st round picks are healthy?

Shouldn’t we be able to identify some in the later rounds, FA, coach them up….anything.

This just severely narrows your window when it’s required to have the top of the top ranked guys only.

Ironically, since Loomis has been GM the best drafted OL have been outside the 1st round.

Stinchcomb
Strief
Jahri Evans
Carl Nicks
Terron Armstead
Eric McCoy

McCoy was a 2nd round pick (48) We didn’t have a first that year bc of drafting future hall of fame DE Marcus Davenport the year before.

I think the answer is in coaching and also having the right pieces on the line at the right time. Scheme may also be a factor as we're trying to install new plays that requires the o-line to follow their assignment to a t. Like outside zone blocks.

Ruiz was 2nd I think, but nevertheless Ram, Peat, Ruiz, McCoy, and Penning were all made under a different offensive staff/philosophy. The new approach will likely look similar to what you're suggesting because outside of LT this scheme puts a premium on skill position players and less emphasis on Oline talent.

Still, I'm looking at some mid-season reviews and while Fuaga hasn't been a bust at LT, he's not been good per PFF. He might be a better fit at LG, which could potentially put us back in contention for a LT.
