Payton Turner - Brief film study (1 Viewer)

To me he has had the longest rookie season I can remember. I still look at him like a rookie. So give him time. If he stays healthy this year we should look at that as the first step to him becoming an NFL player.

Deuce did one that highlighted his inconsistencies as well. He's improving, just needs to stay healthy and keep learning.
I watched a little of Deuce's video. But when he was critical of Turner for doing a spin move back to the inside and not continuing with an outside rush, I thought it was obvious Turner was not wanting to leave a a rush lane open for this mobile QB.

I learn a lot from Deuce, but I think that highlights that sometimes you don't know what these players are being coached to do. Like when we used to refuse to get out rush lanes when playing Cam Newton, and seemed to let him sit in the pocket forever.

Yep… speaking of that. This guy criticized Turner’s spin move too. But if you look at what he did, I could easily justify it as intentional.

Turner got up to the QB (a mobile QB) depth and to continue to push up the pocket when it’s obvious you don’t have the edge is a bad play. If the QB tried to escape under the tackle who looks to be pushing the defensive end around the loop, then Turner would have been there.

Now, none of us know, it could have just been a failed attempt at a spin move but he obviously can’t continued to run up field and had to redirect. So all in all, you’re not going to make a play every snap but if you maintain you’re responsibilities, thats a level of success.
