Play Khalen Saunders on offense (Merged) (1 Viewer)

We just saw Khalen Saunders skill returning the ball, and he already has already been involved in some offensive plays, so why not design a play where he actually runs the ball instead of being a lead blocker? He and the feature RB could sandwich the QB. The defense would think that he would be the lead blocker, but instead, would be handed the ball. Who would really stop him head-on?

I say go for it. It would be super entertaining to watch for sure. But I don't think it changes our fortunes. We don't have a single player/position problem. We have an overall talent and depth problem.

Lots of people could stop him. That's why he was moved to DT in college when he played both DT and RB in high school. If you want to do this because you think it would be fun then cool, but it's not going to make the offense better. If this idea really worked there are plenty of DTs in the NFL that are quicker and faster than Saunders that could be used. The fact that nobody seriously does this other than a trick play here and there should tell you all you need to know about this idea.

I don't think I want to see him carrying the ball. Maybe short yardage. But I'd like to see him in blocking like he did last year.

With our oline issues...wouldnt this be something to consider?

No. If Saunders was a real FB and could play offense someone in college football or the NFL would have figured it out by now. He's a fun guy and it would be fun to see him get a couple carries, but it's not something that is going to really help the offense and it's not going to help with the OL issues. I could see him used as a full back in short yardage and goal line, but I'm not sure he's be any better than Prentice.

But maybe he could play Center or Guard? I kid, but he probably has more talent than what we have left at those positions.

We're looking for sparks here and there. Of course, this wouldn't be a constant or guaranteed play.
