Not a good thing at all. Where is this influence of violence coming from? That might be a good place to start, but woman should learn to defend themselves, if they live in a violent area.

Pepper spray, martial arts, and concealed carry should help woman defend themselves in New York.

There is nothing irrational about fear of sharks. They do kill people whether by accident or not. The odds are small, but I choose not to put myself in a situation where I can't see something that might try to eat me. But, obviously, some places are more likely to have shark attacks than others.
