I’m not quite understanding the “critics” here:

You don’t want to trade up for a QB like Ward yet a mid round one is a wasted pick.

You’re not getting a QB at 9 this year and who knows where the saints draft next year. Sooner or later they’re going to have to get one with Carr leaving next season.

Trading for Ward will require too much for someone I don't think is better than the top three last year. You're talking about at least three first-rounders, and I don't trust Mick to make a move like that. If we were in the top five, I would be fine with that. If a guy you like slides and he is within a couple of picks, I'm okay with that. The way most of the talk is going now, there's a greater chance of Sanders sliding in our range than Cam, and I'm okay with that (he's my top QB this year, but I'm not trying to start a debate). Now, if you like the kid from Louisville or Syracuse and need to move up in the second or late 1st to get them, I'm fine with that. If not, take the BPA on your board at 9

It's pretty straight forward. Don't draft a QB this year. Hope to God that someone trades up for number 9 to give you more draft capital next year.

How do you know it’s “at least” 3 firsts? I honestly doubt it’ll be that much and I’m on board IF Moore is. We don’t know the price yet and I wouldn’t be so quick to shut down the idea.

The “BPAs” available at 9 seem pretty dismal to me with the likes of Mykel Williams(whom the mockers are obsessed with mocking to the saints at 9) or guys like Shemar Stewart(a bust waiting to happen like Williams) or a poor fit like Campbell.

That’d be a waste of a first in my eyes.

That’s a lot of hoping and not too much of a plan to me.

Carr will be gone next year and do you want to scramble for a QB next year? What happens if you’re drafting 17th and have no hope of a top QB?

Cam Ward is not worth trading all of those picks for. Don't force it. And there's nobody mid round in this draft better than what we have in Rattler IMO. Build the roster by trying to accumulate value by trading down and drafting the best players available regardless of position. That's what I would prefer at least.

This was the trade Carolina made for Bryce. It's not three first, but it's still a haul.
Panthers receive:

2023 first-round pick (No. 1 overall)
Bears receive:

WR D.J. Moore
2023 first-round pick (No. 9 overall)
2023 second-round pick (No. 61 overall)
2024 first-round pick (No. 1 overall)
2025 second-round pick

“Hoping”you trade down when no one likely will want the 9th pick sounds like wishful thinking at best when this isn’t a team that trades down anyway(outside of possibly last year)

The saints FINALLY are doing what many have been screaming at them for which is fall in love with a young franchise level QB. I find it real strange people are acting skittish and wanting to settle for the likes of Mykel Williams/Shemar Stewart/Will Campbell/Will Johnson.

Me? I’d rather gamble on a franchise QB IF they are all on board. Unfortunately we’ll settle on a guy above and continue this mess.

Carolina is also a bunch of dolts and went for young instead of stroud

Would you do that trade for Stroud or a guy I think could be very close in Ward?

Never said it was.

But the upside of actually hitting on a mid-late round pick at QB is worth a risk now and then. I think that’s the ultimate point here.
