If it's not been obvious by some of my post I study astrology, so I have some predictions. One of which has already likely, but I'll add a caveat to it. Anyway, here goes.
1. Ryan Ramczyk is born in a dog year, and this is a dragon year...his enemy sign. I'd already felt retirement was likely but since I didn't post this when I originally typed it up 2 weeks ago, it's already come out that he's lost weight and it's likely he won't play this year. Here's my caveat, he won't retire but he'll take the year off, the lost weight will help his recovery and he could potentially return in in 2025.
2. Dennis Allen will have a favorable year, the Dragon and Rat are friends. I expect him to shake the W/L record and put together a strong season. Either double digit wins, or a playoff appearance.
3. Derek Carr will have an amazing year. It started end of last season, in December, where he had a strong run posting some of the best QB ratings of his career. It will carry over into this season and I think this is the year he finally delivers on all of his potential and things start to click for him as a QB.
4. Chris Olave, Isaiah Foskey, Jordan Howden will have good years. There may be some adversity or spots where things get rough, but overall I expect things to go well for them. What that could look like is Olave potentially has a career year, Foskey makes a significant 2nd year leap and Howden establishes himself as an impactful starter beside Mathieu.
5. No matter what happens in the draft, it will be favorable. Either Bowers will fall to us, we'll trade up for a player we covet that we didn't expect to fall (Joe Alt) or we get lucky where a guy w/ an injury history falls, and we can make a play on him. Could this be the year we trade back at some point? I feel like it's a yes on that, but other than logic I have nothing to confirm it.
6. Jake Haener, AT Perry, Cesar Ruiz, and Trevor Penning will all show development in the new scheme.
7. The same goes for Chase Young. He'll develop here much like Nick Fairley did and find a permanent home for him to flourish. Louisiana was so favorable to Fairley that not only did he find success here, but we also saved him from a future heart ailment.
8. Alvin Kamara will have a significant bounce back season in the new scheme. I think he should be w/ the Saints for life but he is an old remanent of the Payton system and Allen may wish to move on, we'll see but the Saints will have a hard decision to make after this season, hopefully it's the right one.
9. Cedric Wilson Jr will surprise some people and be a contributor in this offense. Not sure how much, but he'll make an impression. Very smart signing
10. Juwan Johnson should have a solid year. I think the holdup w/ him was injury + Michael Thomas being on the team. Johnson's best production in 23 and 22 came both after Thomas was out of the picture because they do some of the same things or at least he's the one that picked up the role when Thomas left. Even if Bowers is on the team, he should contribute more than he did a year ago (or be a trade piece if we land Bowers)
11. Ditto for Carl Granderson. He should have a good/great year as a pass-rusher. Seems like a given, due to trajectory but other things are favorable as well.
12. Trey Hendrickson, much like Ryan Ramczyk will have an off year...it's starting with the request for a trade, but at least Ram is laying low. Hendrickson seems to be going against the energy and it won't turn out well.
13. Zach Baun will have an impact on his new team, and we'll curse DA for letting him out the door.
14. Lattimore will have a bounce back season, while Adebo will not duplicate last year. I'm not expecting a huge fall off, but I think the wind was behind his sail last year, and this year it won't be. Not unfavorable but he'll come back to earth a bit, which is why it's important to keep Lattimore around. Trade is still possible but it wouldn't be in our best interest.
15. Honestly, don't know what happens w/ Taysom but I don't feel like he'll be on the team. Not sure he's a fan of Allen's and while he won't publicly request a trade, I still can't help but acknowledge Allen saying "we'll see" when asked could he be a trade target for Payton/Carmichael.
16. Would anyone be surprised if Payton Turner is traded before week 1?
17. Thought about this while I was washing clothes, with a new staff comes new eyes. Loomis alluded to this during his press conference, for that reason despite the Saints not having a plethora of draft picks, they do have players on the team that can act as assets that don't fit the new scheme. Similar to 2006, Payton's 1st year, we did a # of player for player/pick swaps that enabled us to move around the board. That could happen to some degree this year.
18. Blake Grupe, Rashid Shaheed, Alontae Taylor, and Willie Gay Jr. will continue to be teases. They'll have big moments, and they'll also have some off moments/face adversity.
19. Nick Saldiveri will find a role on the team this year. I'm curious if the new regime has considered moving McCoy or Ruiz around on the line. Both are listed as C/G on the official website, and if moving someone around means a potential upgrade or new face on the interior, I'm all for it. Maybe McCoy at LG, Ruiz at C and then Saldiveri or Udoh (played RG for Minessota in 21) at RG.
20. Nathan Peterman might struggle here a bit. Could go either way, but things aren't favorable (another dog).
Ight done, happy Draft Night folks
