A trade sending New York Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma to the New Orleans Saints for a conditional draft pick possibly in 2009 should be completed and announced as early as this morning, according to Newsday.
The Saints wouldn't confirm or deny a deal was near completion Thursday night and only that Vilma wasn't physically in New Orleans. Mitch Frankel, Vilma's agent, was not available for comment Thursday.
Vilma would likely jump into the starting middle linebacker role with the Saints manned the past two seasons by free agent Mark Simoneau in the team's 4-3 scheme.
Injuries have been a concern for Vilma, 25, as he only played seven games in 2007 and landed on injured reserve Oct. 27 and had knee surgery shortly thereafter. Full Story - Sun-Heraldhttp://www.sunherald.com/251/story/402356.html
