NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints traded an undisclosed draft pick for middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma on Friday.

Vilma, 25, was selected by the Jets with the 12th pick overall in the 2004 NFL Draft and earned the Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honor for his 118-tackle, three-interception, two-sack season.

Vilma, who had his season cut short by a knee injury, had been the subject of trade rumors since last winter. They were intensified by Vilma's struggles in the 3-4 defense and rookie David Harris' rapid development.
