Saints are interested in a couple of Crimson Tide staff members for Strength and Conditioning [Matt Rhea Hired] (1 Viewer)

Good to hear that there appears to be progress on filling out the coaches/staff. It is obvious that Alabama runs an outstanding program and I suspect Doug Marrone is giving some valuable input to the considerations. I can't wait, also,to see what Allen does with the DC position!

That's not a bad place to look imo. Never thought Bama would be on the new regime's radar.

Doug Marrone probably brought them to DAs attention since he was OL coach at Bama last year.

And, literally strengthening the Saints at the cost of weakening Bama sounds good to me.

Here's a good read on the duo:

This is great. One b/c they realize there’s a problem there and two b/c it looks like this would helps us tremendously.

It does always seem we have the most injuries and at the wrong times i.e. playoffs. Esp last year. If we could field all our guys, we’re winning right there.

Here's a good read on the duo:

Imagine if they had that kind of success here. Davenport for example has dealt with all kinds of injuries in the NFL but in college he had only one and only missed one game from it. We drafted him because he was prototype size and not as big of an injury risk as some of the smaller sized DE's.

Allen was probably sick of the constant injuries and didn't have the same loyalty to our old strength and conditioning coach Payton had. Clearly something wasn't right, this could be the biggest coaching change of the off-season.

I think that Payton was extremely loyal to his players and his staff.

Loyal almost to a fault.

Hopefully Allen isn't too loyal to the point that he would rather carry dead weight than to part ways with it.

Definitely has to help. One thing Payton did improve on was giving guys the rest to heal but once they came back they would hurt something else.

These guys are awesome and would hate to lose them as a bama fan but with the injury issues the saints have had it would help I’m sure. Reading it might not be a package deal. One might come and the other may stay.

Rhea would be a huge addition. He looks at data from performance metrics and helps tailor the S&C program based on analytics.

As I mentioned in other threads, there's wayyyyyy more to a strength and conditioning program then just slapping weight on a bar or having guys push sleds and run. That's very old school.

In the world of strength and conditioning, the goal is to get the most out of every athlete to help build muscle, maintain conditioning, keep things fluid, etc. Not all athletes are the same. Some need more, some need less in programming. Sometimes pushing too hard in programming can actually lead to on-field injury in certain cases.

Having real data to look at can help individualize a program to get the best out of each player while hopefully avoiding injury.
