Saints Cap Moves: Derek Carr restructured, Erik McCoy restructured; J. Williams released; cap space is at -$8,543,537 (88 Viewers)

Gonna be a rough time in the dome if the offense comes out of the gate the same way they have the last few seasons. Either an empty or hostile dome and pitchforks coming out for Carr if he doesn’t play well.
If the offense comes out the gate the same way they did last season, definitely won’t be a tough time, or have you forgotten the games before McCoy went down last season?

They are only stuck with him for 2025. They can cut him next year and even with the dead money save over $9M.
That's what I was wondering. If we'll be right back in this same situation next year or if we've finally reached the point where cutting him makes the most sense financially.

My personal opinion is that the Saints should seek pay cuts from:

Cam Jordans stats the last 2 years... Can you said severely overpaid!

I doubt there's a single person that thinks this was to cut him this year. If there is a person then they don't understand the cap.

Making him post 6/1 next year now only leaves us with 20MM in dead money and saves us 50MM in cap space.
Unfortunately you can't use that money until 6/1. Wonder if it makes more sense to just take the hit all in one year and save the $9 million versus spreading it out over two years.

We have more cap space next year to make him a June 1st cut.
That is the biggest issue that people who wanted DC cut this year refused to acknowledge...

Cam Jordan should be the person that fans should be screaming that he should be cut immediately...
His salary has come no where near his production in the last 2 years...
6 sack & 10 tackles for a loss & he has made a little over $30 million...

I don’t see where the Saints have the leverage to make them (Jordan, Hill, Davis, and Mathew) take a pay cut. They all would cost more to cut than keep.

Other than D. Davis they are the players that aren't earning their salaries...
But I don't disagree with you ...
They would have to do it to help turn the team around & most people never want to give up what they see as their money...

The saints are in a much better place to eat his hit next year with very likely a rookie QB contract starting next year.
We do not know that. Just because OTC shows us with cap room now does not mean we will be in a better position next year. We have less players already under contract in that number and it does not include the cost of whatever FA signings are made this year. We will be better able to judge this once the season starts.

At this point if I’m Cam, Demario, Tyrann and Taysom I’m telling Loomis to kick rocks on any pay cut after they just restructures $40m of Carr’s money. Make Loomis cut fan favorites and team captains while keeping the most disliked player on the team at full pay.

We literally made this move so that we CAN be aggressive in free agency as we said we plan to be, but sure continue speaking off the cuff with your emotions.
We'll see if that works, but is part of what concerns me. Why invest more money now when I think it is clear Carr is not part of the future. Why not take the pain now and also let the aging veterans leave after the season and use that money to start a rebuild. Investing heavily in free agency while maintaining a large dead cap for Carr seems to delay the inevitable.

The cap isn’t our problem. Terrible drafting is.

We could rip the band aid off our cap tomorrow and it wouldn’t matter unless we start hitting on more picks. Similarly, we could easily dig ourselves out of this perceived cap crater if we had more players on rookie deals.

The formula isn’t complicated. We’ve just failed to execute.
