We are currently dead last on defense in terms of YPG.

The highest ranked offense we have played is the Bucs at 8th in the league.

The previous years we ranked:

2023: 13th
2022: 5th
2021: 7th
2020: 4th

The run defense is bad, we tackle poorly, we don't generate a pass rush, and we screw up and give up big play TDs.

It's not always bad.. but it was all there and it looked especially bad today.

Last year the stats also made the defense look better than they actually were. They faced bad offenses with a murderers row of backup QB’s and still finished middle of the pack.

Yeah in 2020 all the key players were in thier prime, Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins were the safeties. And of course DB clock chewing drives always helped.

This was supposed to be a stifling defensive team with a potent running attack. It’s neither. The only unit playing well is special teams. That setup won’t get it done.

The offensive problems are easily attributable to injuries, and with Olave probably out for at least one game, that situation is unlikely to improve. The defense is aging on all three levels and are giving up explosive plays. Second and 34 followed by a first down? Good grief.

The best hope is the upcoming mini- bye after Thursday’s game. Maybe some of the injured players can heal sufficiently to turn things around. I hate posting negative stuff, but my goodness: I don’t see a lot of reasons for optimism right now.
