Saints give Sean Hickey $22,500 gauranteed (1 Viewer)

Yep. They are moving on from Collins.

Good notice. There must have been a bidding war for him. Glad the Saints won.
Oddly enough, this troubles me. The last one that I remember us giving a signing bonus to was Cadet. Now, don't get me wrong, he hung around for a while, but I was never really impressed with what he delivered.

I certainly hope not. It's basically a free 1st round pick they get by signing him and they have an emotional edge.

Does anyone honestly think that 20k is going to make a difference to La'el? Like, do you seriously think that is going to make-or-break his decision? .... really?

I dont think you understand how signing UDFAs works... Theres $88k to handout between all of them COMBINED. Handing $22k to Hickey and the others we've already paid nearly assures our organization has left La'el out of their plans..

La'el is gonna want (and deserves) the $88k all by himself, the team with the best chance is the one who signs the least UDFAs and gives La'el the most money. It would have been worth it to only sign him and give him all $88k.

EDIT
Sorry its $87k, so even less

He's a hard worker and very teachable. Many reports state he'll play guard in the NFL, but I'm not sure his skill set is fit for that. He needs to explode off the line in the running game.

$20k isn't going to make or break his decision. If he's all about the money he's going to go to a team that will best position him for a huge payday three years from now.

He's not going to choose a bad situation over $20k.

Other teams have to sign UDFA too. I guess you could blow your entire bonus pot on one pony but that doesn't make sense as you still have to field a 90 player roster thru pre season. Buy doing that they would basically be saying that the Bills don't value UDFA's at all outside one guy. Granted that one guy is really good.

This will not impact the Collins signing one way or the other. Why?

1.) Only $10, 000 of the guaranteed $22, 000 will count toward the $86, 000 allocated to each team for signing bonuses. The additional $12, 000 guaranteed in his deal does not count toward the signing bonus pool each team is provided.

2.) Even if all $22, 000 counted, at this point, the team that signs Collins is not going to win his services simply because they are able to pay $5000 more in signing bonus than the Saints. The money, in other words, is negligible and will roughly be the same in bonuses especially since every team have used money to sign udfas. We know the contract will be the same. So Collins's choice will come down to which team he feels offers the best chance for him to have a successful beginning to his career.

I am not saying the Saints will sign him. But Hickey's signing won't affect our ability to sign Collins if we are interested.

None of that money matters. It's like offering you one dollar to be a saint and five to be a dolphin. It's more about everything else. To me I would go to NY. More money publicity fame down the road
