May be. We don't know how serious they are about him.

Mike Silver has strong relations with the 49ers, so I presume that in case of Staley, this should be more than just speculation on his part.

Robert Saleh was picked as defensive coordinator with the niners, it may be uncomfortable for Staley to work under him.

I won't let my major skepticism about Staley cloud my excitement about Kellen. He has the right to pick his staff and I'll support whoever he hires. But it's a bit of a head-scratcher why he'd want to return to the same pairing that was so unsuccessful in L.A.

Staley was solidly meh as a head coach, but he's a pretty good DC. His focus seemed to be more on the front seven than the back four.

Staley runs Fangios scheme. Got his start under Fangio as LB coach in Chicago in 2017, followed Fangio to Denver. Was the Rams DC for one season before getting hired as the Chargers HC.

Staley is a Fangio disciple, so he runs pretty much the same two high shell scheme as Fangio does.
