Saints Saints land more players than any other team in PFF's preseason top 50 (1 Viewer)

I was surprised to see Marcus Williams at #48. Apparently he's really, really good at football. The Saints put the franchise tag on him and now PFF is trying to tell me he's the 48th best player in the NFL. I got PFF and the Saints telling me one thing and people on this board telling me something else. I don't know what to think about the guy.

Williams has four straight seasons of solid PFF grades, and two of those years were outstanding seasons with a mark of 88.2 or better. He is a complete safety who can defend the run as well as make an impact in coverage.

The fact that he could bounce back from being posterized by Stefon Diggs for the Minneapolis Miracle early in his career also shows the kind of mental strength he has, which can only be applauded. There are certainly safeties out there with bigger reputations, but there are few with better consistent play.

Thank goodness we experts have no say on who plays/sits or stays/goes.

He is good. Fans just overeat on one or two bad plays. AB used to get hate as well as Ingram, Shanle, Mark Fields, Fred Thomas, John Carney, etc. None were half as bad as the boo-birds claimed they were.

Shanle was. If anything Shanle gets too much praise from the homers. Fred Thomas was good early on and then became toast more often than not. Ingram took awhile to get things going. Eventually he became a good RB.

The reason I feel that fans dont appreciate Marcus Williams is because he doesnt show up in stats and he dosent show up on the camera much. His job is to play deep safety and the camera angle cant display what it is he is doing taking away the deep ball. Secondly, when fans watch the game they focus on the los. There are a lot of nuances in football the ordinary fan doesnt see. For instance, they may notice obvious failures by players but cant discern the success.

And that's without Demario and Deonte Harris... 2 former all pro players. And a pro bowler in Lattimore.
There are 32 teams and if evenly distributed would be 1.56 players per team to fill the top 50 list. We have 5 on the list. There's simply not a lot of slots and many deserving players from the 32 teams.
