Saints met with top QB prospect Cam Ward [Schefter: “Its up to CLE, NYG, or maybe Saints to make compelling offer to move Titans off #1 pick”]

I haven't been a fan of drafting a QB high in this draft, however we don't often pick in the Top 10 and this draft is one where moving up might not cost as much as other drafts. With that said, I trust what CKM wants to do and if Ward is the guy, then he's the guy and we build around him.

Ward's Pro Day is today and he is supposed to throw.

I wouldn't be against trading up for Ward. I think he's the only true top tier talent at QB in this draft. I've been very high on Spencer Rattler, but he hasn't done enough to show he's the guy (yet). It's still very much up in the air if he ever will. If Moore thinks Ward is his franchise QB, then I'm all for grabbing him. Until the Saints get a high end starter at QB, we will be stuck in mediocrity. The Saints aren't exactly a franchise that has swung and missed on a bunch of high picks at QB. It's probably long overdue that the Saints at least make an attempt to draft a top rated QB as this franchise hasn't even attempted to draft a QB in the first round in 50+ years.

Ross says that the brass is at the Miami pro day today. Ward, Restrepo too I’d guess. I wouldn’t mind him either, with a later pick. He’s a baller.

Watching Ward throw now at his pro day. Still love the guy and would be ecstatic if we traded up and got him. Realize it probably won’t happen tho.

Giving up picks is much better than settling on Mykel Williams/Shemar Stewart/Will Campbell/Will Johnson or some off the wall pick.

I disagree, Ward would have been the 6th or 7th QB taken in last yrs draft. You don't trade away multiple 1's and probably a 2nd and a 3rd or more for a guy that would have been the 6-7th QB taken the yr before

If he declared last year sure he may have been the 6th/7th QB taken. However he came back and continued to improve this past season. If we are talking about current Cam Ward vs last years prospects he’s probably 3rd or 4th behind Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and maybe Drake Maye. Had a guy like Jayden Daniels declared in 2023, he likely would have been a day 2 pick.

I disagree , even with his improvement in 24 he'd still have been just before or just after Nix. His decision making is poor and his throwing motion is bad. He's going to need a bunch of coaching up and that may or may not work.
I wouldn't take him in we had the #1 pick, still wouldn't if Carter or Graham or even Tet were there @ 9

I like Ward more than I liked Caleb. Caleb was flashy with the weird angle throws but the personality and frumpiness gave me concerns. He also took a ton of sacks trying to play hero ball. Sanders is pretty much the same player as Caleb but far less talented. Ward has a cannon, has good maneuverability, makes good decision, and is winner. He willed the Canes to victory in several games last year. It’s been a while since we’ve had a QB who had the capability to take over the game and comeback from a deficit.

Disagree. Ward has less question marks than Nix, Penix, and McCarthy had. While having some top tier traits to work with. His throwing motion is a little different but he’s able to throw accurately from various arm angles with a ton of velocity. As for decision making it’s not bad he at times can be a bit of a gunslinger. His interception % last year was about the same as Caleb Williams and better than Drake Maye in his final year. I’d gladly trade up for him.

I won’t be surprised if Ward is a better QB than Williams. He seems to have bought into his own ego way too much.

They made the trade for Davenport because SP thought that was the missing piece. We are nowhere near 1or 3 players away from the SB.
Funny thing was Davenport wasn't really a Sean Payton pick - was largely a Jeff Ireland & Mickey Loomis collaboration! And I'm not sure why... not being close to contention should stop a team from going up to draft a QB that they covet.

“Let’s build up the team in other areas and then add one later.” So in theory your team is better so it means you’re lower in the draft so then you’re giving up far far more to go up to get a QB. And the kicker - the Saints LOVE Ward. Isn’t there something to just getting yr guy?

Saints been trying to build the trenches for YEARS much like PHI - and largely have failed mightily. Ruiz (average), Penning (borderline starter, who they traded a future first that became Jalen Carter), Fuaga (great pick but they would've taken Bowers if he was there), McCoy (good pick), Davenport (largely overdrafted and great up huge assets to acquire), Turner (lol), Foskey (should probably be cut after training camp coming up). What does that amount to... just a bunch of wasted picks on "areas of need" to build the team around.

At some point, the team needs to draft a QB. They tried last year with Penix. They will likely try again this year with Ward (doubt it happens because I just don't see TEN doing it) but the notion the the team shouldn't be the QB business when they don't have a franchise QB or even a good one is... so confusing & puzzling.
