We emerged with the W, but our having to hold on until the very end accomplished several things:

1. It will give the team a better focus, instead of getting inflated heads over what could have been a 50-burger massacre.

2. The defense had some good things, and will have more confidence vs. the G-men in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Rob Ryan seems to have found his mojo.

3. Ingram's decisive N-S running ...and breakaway speed was great to see. You know that the Giants will stack 8 in the box when he's in there. But may slack off on Khiry. My prediction is that Khiry will break 100 vs. the Giants.

4. Armstead will be back, and the O-line seems to have found its identity. I believe they'll give Drew a clean pocket most of the game.

PS: If you weren't on the Gameday Board, you missed a mini meltdown from a few WhoDats... when the Colts mounted their late rally in the 4th quarter. Check out the comments from page 120 and beyond.

Full disclosure: I too was sweating bullets late in the game. :scared:

Bottom line, I'm so glad the Saints did not drop a 50-burger vs. the Colts. With the way it is now, the team will have the right balance to their game prep, and will play a great game on All Saints Day (Nov 1st), and emerge with a big win.

Yup, Saints had the ball first and goal at the Colt 2 yd line in the first half, up 20-0. I was hoping they wouldn't score also.

Really? Cuz I was ticked we didn't score. I was also ticked that we let them come back.

However, the OP makes a valid point that winning breeds confidence, but allowing them to stage a comeback potentially keeps our young team hungry.

Personally, I need to see us put up a 40 or 50 burger, however, if we did put up 40-50 on the Panthers, then that would be amazing.

No, not really. I saw a very hungry Saints team in the first half, young or not. 50 would have been just fine.

I don't disagree that we looked hungry in the 1st half. But I can also see how winning but not blowing them out can keep us hungry.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm merely saying I see the OPs point and it is valid. He may also be right.

If we was undefeated. A blow out road win would be appropriate.

But a blow out win with a 2-4 team... It would bite us in the rear end. Generally, a young team tend to follow a blowout win with a blowout lose.

We followed our first close win on primetime with a blowout lose.

what do u mean armstead will be back?

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

I think the main take-away is that even when you're up 27-7 in the 3rd quarter, your offense needs to adjust to really put the game away. The D proved that they had their stuff together, and the O needed to do the same. A quarter is a lot of time, and being up by 20 isn't enough against decent or better teams. TB blew a 24-0 lead yesterday and lost. The point is, shut the door on them and break their will while you still can. You do this by pinging up the scoreboard.

I don't think there was a meltdown. 14 of 21 points were off Breaux falling down. Yes, the offense sputtered, bad, but I never really felt the defense was going to lose the game.

Had you told me in preseason we'd hold the Colts to 21 points, I'd thought you crazy.
