Saints request interview with Kellen Moore (2 Viewers)

Kellen Moore, being a Boise State guy, is a person I am very familiar with. His father was a successful high school coach so he’s been on this path his whole life. He set records as the BSU QB before going to the NFL as a backup QB. He has had success as an assistant in the NFL, most notably his work in Dallas. He was marginal in LA, but seems to have done well in Philly. He’sa good person to have on the list. I think his knock is similar to Payton, sometimes he gets a little pass happy.
Not this year, he figured out how to hide a marginal passer like Hurts and utilize a great O-Line and generational RB. He has a lot of the hallmarks we should be looking for in a young coordinator.

Also anyone (already seen a few) questioning his time (while cutting his teeth as a PC, mind you) then check out the actual numbers his offenses put up, not just what you imagined or your Cowboy fan friend thought:

Moore spent the first five seasons (2018-22) of his coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys. During his four-year stint as the offensive coordinator, Moore orchestrated a unit that ranked second in the NFL in total offense (391.0 ypg), scoring offense (27.7 ppg), and touchdowns, third in first downs per game (22.5), fourth in passing offense (264.4 ypg) and third-down conversion rate (44.1 pct.), and seventh in rushing offense (126.6 ypg). He helped Dallas to three playoff appearances and two NFC East championships while mentoring nine players to a combined 13 Pro Bowl appearances.

Under Moore's direction in 2022, the Cowboys navigated an early-season injury to quarterback Dak Prescott and finished with a 12-5 record to earn a trip to the postseason. Returning from injury, Prescott ranked among the NFL's top passers down the stretch, as his 20 passing touchdowns from Week 10 until the end of the regular season tied for the most in the league. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who caught 107 passes for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns, and running back Tony Pollard, who set career highs in rushing yards (1,007) and touchdowns (nine), were voted Pro Bowlers.

In 2021, Moore's offense led the league in total yards per game (407.0) and points per game (31.2), while tying for second in passing yards per game (282.4). Prescott threw for a team-record 37 touchdowns on a career-high 410 completions, registering a 104.2 passer rating (third in the NFL in 2021 and fourth in Dallas' single-season history). In his second season, Lamb led the offense with 79 receptions for 1,102 yards and six scores. Tight end Dalton Schultz enjoyed a breakout season with 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns, joining Jason Witten as the only Cowboys tight ends with 70 receptions and 800 yards in a season. Dallas sent three offensive players to the Pro Bowl – Lamb, guard Zack Martin, and tackle Tyron Smith.

Through the first five weeks of the 2020 season, Moore helped Prescott lead the league in passing yards (1,856) before he suffered a season-ending injury. Despite utilizing four different quarterbacks and eight different offensive line combinations, Moore's unit ranked eighth in passing offense (260.1 ypg). Wide receiver Amari Cooper led the group with a career-high 92 receptions for 1,114 yards and five touchdowns, while Lamb set the franchise rookie record with 74 catches for 935 yards and five touchdowns.

In his first season as offensive coordinator in 2019, Moore guided the Cowboys to the NFL's top-ranked offensive attack (431.5 ypg) while ranking second in passing offense (296.9 ypg) and fifth in rushing offense (134.6 ypg). Prescott finished second in the NFL with a career-high 4,902 passing yards (second-most in franchise history) and fourth with a career-high 30 passing touchdowns. The unit also featured running back Ezekiel Elliott, who logged the second-most scrimmage yards (1,777) and fourth-most rushing yards (1,357) in the NFL, and Cooper, whose breakout campaign included career highs in receiving yards (1,189) and receiving touchdowns (eight).

Moore originally joined Dallas' coaching staff as the quarterbacks coach in 2018, when he tutored Prescott to his second career Pro Bowl.

Bonus: Moore finished his collegiate career at Boise State with a 50-3 record (.943 winning percentage), marking the most wins by a quarterback in NCAA history. He ended his career ranked in the top 10 in all major passing categories, including second in touchdown passes (142), third in completion percentage (69.8 pct.), and sixth in passing yards (14,667). Moore was voted a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America in 2010 and was a three-time Offensive Player of the Year (2009-11). While he was under center (2008-11), Boise State turned in four consecutive 12-win seasons, including the first 14-0 record in school history.

Yes, we really need to make sure that our next head coach doesn't score too many points. 😀

Seriously, I get what you are saying, but I'd rather just score the points and figure out how to design a defense that can deal with the fatigue rather than struggle to score all game long. And frankly, there is no better way to stop the run than making sure the other team has to abandon the run because you scored so many points.
Yeah would be a great problem to have.

I don't know much about Kellen Moore as a coach, but I won't hold much against him having worked for Jerry Jones and Dean Spanos. That requires something I don't think most people have.

No thanks. I want an offensive minded guy, but Moore hasn’t shown anything. And comparisons to Sean Payton are nil. Sean Payton is an alpha among alpha’s and the Saints probably won’t ever find another Payton, at least not anytime soon.

He was horrific in Dallas, then went to Chargers and burnt their Offense to the ground, caused Their RB to leave and their head Coach to get fired. He isn’t doing anything special in Philly, he simply is managing a good roster with Barkley having a crazy year.
From what I remember the Chargers offense was fine. It was the defense, led by their defensive genius HC Brandon Staley, that let them down. Their running game did suffer a bit due to injuries and lack of depth up front

I like this one more than the others. Need to listen to him interview. Next HC needs to be relatable, witty, and confident.

It’s the type that vibes best w/ the city.

The problem I have with Moore calling games is that the tends to forget about the running game during his time in Dallas. There were games where Zeke Elliot was not in rythm because of the playcalling. He had maybe the best line in football, a good running back and he didn't find the balance.

Good thing thing that Barkley is now the feature of the offense with the Eagles. I am not sure it I because Moore learned from previous experiences or Barkley being so dominant.

A good question to ask is if Moore can make the most of a running game (and offense) without a dominant back and a feature running back (I think Kamara should play joker everywhere).

If by horrific you mean he had the number one over all offense while he was there, yes he was horrific. He was literally the leader of the 32nd worst offense at least.

Brandon Staley was well on his way out the door before they hired Kellen Moore. Hiring Moore was his Hail Mary similar to how Kubiak was to Allen.

Now he’s just managing a talented roster. Ever witnessed a coach mismanage good players? Give credit where credit is due. You sound like a hater.

I stopped by the eagles message board to see what they’re saying. They’re pretty ticked about us interviewing him..and doing it before the playoffs. Even saw a ridiculous suggestion that they fire their coach and promote him now. This is why you want that offensive play caller HC.
