Saints request interview with Vikings DB’s coach Daronte Jones for DC (106 Viewers)

So, does anyone know what kind of scheme he runs? I seem to recall a lot of man and single high safety with a 4 man line at LSU, but I don't have a great recall of him at LSU.

Who is his mentor on defense? Zimmer?

Secondary didn’t perform great under him but I don’t think the Vikings have great coverage guys either in secondary

I don't recall being particularly impressed with him as the DC at LSU, but maybe that was due to lack of talent and that was the last year of Orgeron which was a tough situation.

Like that pairing more than I like the other two names that have been tied to him.
Hard to say. First time DC in the NFL, his one season at LSU was pretty mediocre, they ranked 64th in the country. There’s also the fact that we don’t know what kind of scheme he will actually run, hopefully if he does get hired he brings the attacking 3-4 Flores runs

Looks like he spent most of his time under Zimmer but was retained by new staff as well so suggest he’s seen as an asset. I’d assume he must be knowledgeable about some Cover4 or match zone concepts

He ran primarily a 3-4 at LSU after Coach O stop forcing his awful 4-3 obsession. Turned around the defense immediately.

But he's a multi front guy that uses what's best for his personnel

Thanks. I think I blocked out a lot of that season. Part of it because it began with a long hurricane evacuation and clean up.

I'd be pleased with a multi-front guy that adjusts to his personnel and to the weakness in the other offense. But, I'm still curious about what he does with the DBs? As much as I have always been a fan of man-to-man press defenses, I don't think they work great in today's NFL.

But, hopefully ELIAS is right that he is knowledgeable about Cover 4 and matchup zone concepts. I know he has been a hot name as a DC in the NFL for several years so he must be a smart guy. I would have thought Moore would go with an older DC for the experience, but having all young guys would be kind of exciting.

The counting stats don't look great, but opponents attempted more passes against the 2024 Vikings than any other NFL team. At 637 pass attempts against, the Vikings were one of only five teams to defend against over 600 pass attempts. League average was 556 attempts.

The 2024 Vikings led the league in interceptions with 24 (second-best was the Texans with 19). The Vikings were also eighth in the league in opponent passer rating and tied for ninth in net yards per attempt against (yards per attempt with sack yardage lost factored in).

I remember his LSU defense really performing badly earlier in the season. Then they got destroyed by Ole Miss and Lane told Orgeron that they never blitzed against the Rebels. And after that the defense was much better the rest of the season.

I think Orgeron gave Daronte more freedom after that. Their defense had a really good game against a good Alabama team in the last quarter if the year from what I remember.
