METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have signed cornerback David Jones, their 2007 fifth-round draft choice, to a three-year deal, the team announced Thursday.
"David is a player we expect to make a contribution, and this signing allows him to concentrate on his preparation for the opening of camp," said General Manager Mickey Loomis, who did not release financial terms per team policy.
Jones, 6-foot, 196-pounds, from Wingate University was one of the top small-school prospects in the draft, having compiled 15 interceptions during his final three collegiate seasons. A native of Greenville, S.C., Jones was a two-year starter and earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors in each of his final two seasons. For the Bulldogs, he also recorded 110 tackles, 28 pass defenses and a forced fumble. In addition, he scored five touchdowns in his career, three coming on interception returns and the others when he lined up as a wide receiver.
