Update Saints to interview Mike McCarthy at the end of this week near Jan 29-Feb 1 [Underhill: McCarthy would have to be the current favorite] (204 Viewers)

And btw, I like Alvin and yes, you could say he's pretty dependable. If he can go, he's gonna suit up and play; However, I have often questioned his love for the game and his desire to win. A lot of times, he just seems to go through the motions on the field, and never really seems pissed off or down when we lose. He's just kind of there.

So it isn't surprising to me to see that he wants things to continue the way they are...jmo.

I'm sure this will piss off plenty of people.

Listening to NFL Radio this morning they were already going in Johnson being hired in Chicago. Saying Chicago needed an experienced HC, one who could install a culture and who has proven they can win in the NFL. Stating that Johnson didn't have to install a culture in Detroit, that was Campbell, Johnson was just there for the ride. Also, that if the Bears hired Johnson just for Caleb, then that was wrong since there is an entire team he needs to lead, not just one dude.

The other former player/commentator went in on the guys who come from OC or DC and stay involved in that as a HC that it has an affect on the whole team. The HC needs to pull back and lead the whole team, not just one side of the ball. Gave Sirani as the example that he pulled back this season by hiring Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio to lead their respective sides of the ball.
This problem would be really compounded if Dennis Allen is the DC, as we know what kind of discipline and culture he allows. Ben Johnson might need an assistant HC to bring that leadership. Who knows, maybe Rizzi is that guy.

I don't buy this at all. Not even a little bit. But hey, if that's what you get, that's what you get I suppose.

Trading one cesspool for another. Lol. At least Reddit allows for more characters.
There are plenty of really good well-moderated reddit communities there. While there's a lot of trash, you have some control over the content you want to see so imo it's better than some of the other social media apps. Ymmv tho.

That's fine. No 2 people see things the exact same. What I see, is based on body language and the way he says things sometimes, but I'm not inside the guys head so I can't say what he believes or thinks. Which is why I said merely that I "question" his desire.

That's exactly how I see it. :)

I see it too. Won’t question his desire but I do see the same “check out” moments. He gets frustrated when stifled.

He was MUCH better about it last year though. Rejuvenated, and he also takes that C he just got on his jersey very seriously.

He's definitely been coasting these past couple of seasons. This season started so well that we got to see motivated and competitive version of Kamara. Once the wheels started falling off, he quiet'd down too. Partly because he was the remaining top weapon of a depleting skill room, but also he got paid and whats the sense in laying it all out for a 5 win team? He absolutely makes business decisions when its not gonna make a difference. We also wouldn't be having this conversation now if he had pushed it every game. Obviously you have to play this game seriously and with a baseline intensity so its not for lack of effort on Kamara, its the lack of opportunity on a winning team.

Because he's old. He's done it as a younger version of himself, but can he do it now? And for how long before he decides he's had enough.

He's starting over in his 60s. When Payton took over the Broncos he was in his 50s. Plus, he has a superbowl win. I just don't see him being as competitive as Payton to do it again. He's not as hungry as the younger guys. He's not as innovative as the younger guys. Maybe the game hasn't passed him by yet but I don't see him adjusting as quickly as he will need to. Just my opinion, but I don't get the feeling he's still fired up to coach. To me, this simply looks like the chance to get one last big contract based on his history. I think he'll be out of football in about 4 years. And this rebuild will last 2 of them.

The Saints (and every other team for that matter) have had more success hiring a young hungry coach than a retread who's won a championship years ago. Everyone was excited about Ditka too. But if you guys can name a coach who's won a Super Bowl with one team and went on to do it for another, I may change my mind. Very few people have the drive and determination to do what it takes to win a Superbowl. McCarthy has been a good coach, but expecting him to do it again at 61 with a 2 year rebuild ahead of him? Smh, history says the Saints will be back in 3 to 4 years looking at young coaches again. Hopefully they don't hire another retread again
That's ridiculous, SP had just turned 59 when hired by Denver and the Broncos were in far worse shape than we are
While no HC has won the SB with 2 different teams there have be a few that have been to the SB with 2 different teams, mainly because most HC that win SB and especially more than one stay with that team for a long time and retire after that
