Saints Training Camp Updates - Day 11, August 5th (1 Viewer)

Don't forget context - the Offense has looked good on two days full of RZ work, second of which was not in pads. That heavily tilts the odds in favour of O effectiveness.

Similarly, the day the Saints did lots and lots of third down work, the D had things in their favour and looked like the 'winners' by a wide margin that day.

Also, we need to keep in mind that a lot of key defensive starters are currently out.

I've been reading John Hendrix's (SI) play by play breakdowns for all the sessions for each day of training camp day to try and get a feel where the team is as a whole. From what i gather, there's a ton of short runs getting blown up in the backfield to start drives. The defense seems way ahead at this point. The offense does shine in 2 min drills when they are throwing more. But they still have work to do in short yardage runs, imo

One of the tough things to get a read on there with the short runs is that we aren’t tackling to the ground right now. So a run that looks blown up in practice may not necessarily be blown up in a game.

To your point though, it’s certainly something to keep an eye on once the games start.

Another thing to keep in mind…these heavy motion/playaction offenses have given our defense fits before, so our offense shining with stuff like that right now could just be a function of that.

So tough to judge anything this time of year.
