Saints avoid Super Bowl hangover, but can’t repeat

Almost one year later, the New Orleans Saints have a much greater appreciation for what only eight teams have done in NFL history — win back-to-back Super Bowls.
The 2004 New England Patriots are the last team to repeat as Super Bowl champs, thanks to the Saints’ quick dismissal from this year’s playoffs by the Seattle Seahawks in the wild-card round two weeks ago.
While they successfully avoided the dreaded Super Bowl hangover like the 2005 and 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers did in failing to qualify for the playoffs a year after winning their fifth and sixth Vince Lombardi trophies, the Saints’ bid for another championship came up way short.
